Life lately

Wow, it’s been a long time since I have taken time to blog.  This is one of the negative things about Twitter and Facebook.  I feel like I say all I need to say in 140 characters or less and that covers me for my followers on Facebook and Twitter.  A lot tends to get lost doing it that way.

Let’s see.  My parents came to visit in May and I had a blast spending time with them.  We bought lots of plants and flowers to plant around our new pond and front of the house.  Everything looked so beautiful.  I love doing that sort of thing.  It makes me happy to know that I got that from my Dad.  He has always loved working with plants.  He really loves tending to his african violets in the house the most though (wink wink Mom hehe).  We worked a lot outdoors but we also had time to enjoy Amish country and just being together.

Dave and Jessica Mast came for a visit.  It’s always a good time when those two stop in.  We wish they lived in town so we could hang out more.  Jessica and I went shopping and found an awesome deal on an ottoman (I’ve been searching for one forever). Dave spent time with the GCC IT folks.  Then we bought a ton of nerf gun supplies (thanks to Laura Gekeler’s inspiration) and had a blast modifying the guns and shooting each other.

Justin’s parents also came up for a visit recently and Justin put them right to work.  He and his dad worked long hours on rewiring our garage electric adding a new breaker box and discovering that there was little to no insulation in the walls (more fun projects).  Justin’s mom headed up a yard sale to get rid of some old college mismatch furniture.  She made a killing and we were able to go celebrate at Texas Roadhouse with the funds.  I enjoyed getting to spend time one on one with Lorraine just talking.

Hopefully my sister Kelly and Justin’s sister Stacey will make the trek up here this month or next for a visit.  It’s so nice to get to see family.

Justin and I are heading to Grand Haven, MI this month for a long weekend getaway (our first on our own since our honeymoon almost 6 years ago).  We are bringing Java and are staying at a really cool apartment down town.  I am really looking forward to it after a long summer of book prep for the Fall semester at Bethel. We also plan to head to Florida to watch the second to last shuttle launch ever in November.  Justin was lucky enough to be selected to go to the NASA tweet-up and have up close access to the launch, tours, interviews, etc.   Unfortunately I was not selected to join him but I’m super stoked he will have this once in a lifetime opportunity.  I will watch from the hotel or somewhere a few miles away.

Life at the Bethel Bookstore has been busy but fulfilling.  We launched online textbook ordering for the first time this semester and it has proven to be very successful.  It definitely cut down on lines and made things much easier for students.  We have heard a lot of positive feedback from this feature.  We now have a new touch screen register system and love it.  That also made rush much smoother.  The returning student workers learned the new system very quickly and so far all of them seem to love it.  A lot of behind the scenes work has gone into the success of this fall semester and we are excited for what the future holds for our store.

If you are still reading this long blog entry I would like to ask you to sincerely pray for me about an opportunity I have been given at GCC.  I have been asked to lead a financial course for MC3 at the beginning of the year.  I’m excited about this but very nervous to be creating, leading, and possibly teaching this course to adults, teens, and kids.  I have been praying for awhile now for an opportunity to get more involved and to follow God’s will and then this popped up.  I could use all the prayers I can get.  I’m trying to jump out of the boat and out of my comfort zone in hopes that I will expand my comfort zone and continue to be obedient to whatever God brings my way.

Well that’s it for now.  Hope to blog again soon and more often.

Happy Birthday to Brooke!

Hey Everyone, I’m finally getting a little time to update. As you know, I’m starting the MBA program at GWU this Fall. As I finally have a chance to glance through my syllabi I can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed. I knew that taking online classes might mean a little more busy work but wow. One of my classes won’t be too bad, just tedious. The other was surprising. I have a project, a book report, and another project to do this semester and much of that is actually due either while I’m in Russia or just before I leave. With pretty much all of my September weekends booked up with other things, I don’t know when I can get it all done. I will mostlikely have to turn in my assignments and midterms early due to the Mission trip. I know that I can do and that I will do it, it just makes me a little nervous. I had intended on getting ahead on the assignments before the classes officially started but since I”ve had to work til 8pm everynight and some Saturdays I haven’t had time. I’ve actually been staying at work til 9pm at the earliest just trying to find my desk for the next day. This has definitely been one of the worst rushes so far. Please pray for me if you will. I know many of you do already and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.

Today Justin is at the race in Bristol with some church friends. He probably won’t be home til around 2am or so. I was able to sleep in a little which felt good (I was up a lot of the night coughing). Java and I have been to the dump and outside a bit this morning already. I’m steadily plowing away at my “to do” list I’ve been compiling since I haven’t been home most nights to clean. Today at 3pm is a party for our Sunday School Class. It’s at a man from our church’s house. He has a pool! woohoo! This white girl is going swimming! While I don’t think many people from our class are going to be able to make it, we do have about 3 new prospects coming that have just started at GWU. I’m very excited. Justin was able to talk to them on Wednesday night at church and invited them to the party. They came by the Bookstore on Thursday to get directions to the party. I really hope they will like us and continue to come to Crestview.

Ok, enough babbling. I hope you all have a great weekend!

I’m sure most of you have forgotten who I am by now since I haven’t been online or posting lately. Things have been so hectic lately that I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Right now and for the past month or so I have been in a pre-rush state at work. This has been the busiest presemester I’ve had. We lost Maxine at the Bookstore. She moved to Florida, so Cary has had to learn her position and do her old position until we hired someone about 2 weeks ago. We both have been working extra hard and have dipped into each other’s jobs to help out. We have also been granted a new shipping room and have spent much time moving books and merchandise over there. Then we expanded our store out some and have had to move things around. On August 1st we openned our shipping center for the Fall semester. The first day we had 200 orders. Then we have had internet problems which I bet if you went to www.gardner-webb.edu right now it wouldn’t pull up. At least it hasn’t for me since I’ve been home this weekend. On the 28th my classes officially begin. They’ve posted the online class info already but since the website doesn’t work I can’t check to see what I’m in for. I would love to say that I will be back to posting and online soon but It looks like it won’t be until September. We start our late hours coming up this Wednesday and for the next two weeks I’ll be working 8:30-8:30 everyday (gotta love having a salary position). We even have to stay late on Friday this week and we’re open this coming Saturday but I will not be there because we are having Walker’s 1st birthday party (a little early,it’s really on the 24th) and I won’t miss that for anything. He is growing so fast. He started walking at 10 months and is so smart. I can’t wait to see him again. Well, I’ve babbled long enough. I hope you all have a great week ahead of you. I hope to possibly have time during the late work hours to post but I guess we will see. I miss you all!

Diving right in

Although I wish I was talking about a swimming pool at this particular time…haha I’m actually talking about what I’ve gotten myself into. Starting this Fall I will be a full time Graduate Student here at GWU. I’ve decided to pursue my MBA (no jokes please haha) with an emphasis in Health Management. I’m hoping that it will help me to find a career somewhere in a Hospital or a Medical Office of some sort. I should complete my degree by August of 2008. The best news about it is, it’s absolutely free to me…Well as Dr. Negbenebor always says, “Nothing is free…Opportunity Cost”. I will be signing away my life for the next 4 years in order for this to happen. I have to work here while I’m in school and 2 years afterwards. I figure I’ve been here fulltime for 4, what’s 4 more? haha Hopefully it won’t be too long. Pray for me and pray for Justin because he will have to deal with my many tantrums hehe. I’m nervous about taking the GMAT now ($250 test). Please make checks out to…. just kidding. That is the only thing I will have to pay for and I have until January-ish to take the test. I’m nervous about going back to school and trying to do it full time while working but I know that God has a plan for me and that I can do it if I just try. My friend Cary that I work with is in the program too so we will get through it together.
So….what do you think?

Hey Everyone…I can’t wait until I can sit down and finally update this thing on all that’s been going on. I’m sure by the time I do I’ll forget most of it but I’ll try. I have a Prayer Praise to share with you. This week has been inventory week, Vacation Bible School, and a book audit. So far, my book inventory went really well and this morning I had an audit on my books. It was a new guy and he checked at least 20 different books. Thankfully we aced it and got all of them correct. Now we just have to finish supply and GWU merchandise inventory by tomorrow. VBS doesn’t end until Thursday. Along with my Prayer Praise I have a Prayer request. It may sound silly but I ask that you all pray for Justin and I for we have both been going nonstop for awhile now and are both sick. I just ask that you pray that we will find good health again and also make it through the rest of this crazy week. Thanks guys! It’s so nice to know we’ve got people praying for us. Hopefully I’ll let you know how things go soon. Don’t give up on me. I can see the light hehe.

*Oink Oink*

Today is Justin’s birthday but it sure feels like it could be mine haha. Today the ladies from the bookstore went to Olive Garden as a sort of farewell lunch for Maxine. Her last day with us is next Friday. She will be moving to Florida to be with her husband. We ate til we were beyond stuffed and the best part….it was free. Our boss gave us money to go.

Now today at 4:30ish Heather and I have scheduled to go to the wellness center and work out. I think I might have to take it a little easy today. This pot-bellied girl might not make it haha.

After that we will cool down and then we will meet up with Justin and his family at IHOP for supper. I might need to wear my pj pants hehe.

I’ll let ya know how all that goes haha.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUSTIN AGAIN! I love that man! I just want you all to know that it’s okay to be jealous that you can never have him as your husband (well you ladies). I mean after all I am the luckiest gal around :) So…show some sweetness to my hubby today.

Apples and Accolades

Today is Gardner-Webb’s Annual “Apples and Accolades” for faculty and staff. This is a faculty and staff recognition program and a picnic. Every year we all gather together while members of GWU’s workforce receive awards for how long they’ve been here and how wonderful they are. After that, we eat FOOD hehe. I always love the cookies and fruit. Last year they served barbecue but we’ll have to wait and see about today. I love anything that gets me out of work for 2 hours and has food. Two more years til I can get my “5 year award”. Let’s hope not ;)
