Weekend

This past Friday I went straight into work and started working on the book inventory. I counted from 9am to about 5pm and finished up but still had to input the counts in my courseworks program. The report that I used to count the books was listed by title and the report that I had to input the counts to was by author so it took me twice as long to get it done. I finally finished at 8:30pm and headed home. I really wanted to get it done then so I wouldn’t have to come back in on Saturday. I wanted to be able to sleep in. I should have known better because Java woke me up around 7ish and then Justin decided just to get up a little before 8 and by then I was awake. It was good though because we got to talk to our neighbor some and take the garbage to the dump. Java even got to ride along. Then we brought her back and headed to Lowes to do some dreaming. We got some mulch while there and Justin spread it around while I showered and got ready. Then he got ready and we were off to Heather’s house to meet everyone for our GWU get together. It was good to catch up on everyones’ lives and we even played Turbo Cranium. It was a lot of fun. Heather and Jessica won.

Then we went to Fatz and had lousy service but a good meal and more fun. Then the two married folks had to be party poopers and go grocery shopping and to let Java out. After that we watched “Return of the Jedi” and I ended up going to bed around 11:15 from exhaustion while Justin toughed it out to see the end (I had already seen it before).

Today we got up extra early and ventured to Polk County to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to surprise family and friends. We hung out a bit and ate lunch and had to head back to Shelby to let the dog out. It’s rough having a child haha. We were finally able to catch a late nap and the end of the race. I’m just sure that Tony Stewart cheated in some way. Now it’s almost 11pm and I’m about to hop in the bed while Justin plays Battlefield…we’ve been doing that a lot lately but it seems to be working out pretty good. I never hear him come to bed which is odd for me but nice that I don’t get disturbed hehe.

Night all!

Hilarious!

We all know that Carolina rules and Duke drools right? Well here is another sad example that Duke just isn’t up to par.

Boo on Duke! Bad Bad Duke!

Customer Service

Sometimes I hate being in the customer service line of work. People can be so rude and I just want to make it known that I’m not impressed with their behavior. Earlier I answered the main line “Campus Shop can I help you?” and, as it typically goes a man asked, “Is this the Bookstore?”. I could tell already he was not a nice individual by the tone in his voice. After answering him that he was calling the correct place he said he needed prices for textbooks. I told him what we tell everyone (due to so many calls and not enough staff) to go on our website and he could find all that information there. He proceeded, “I’m calling you!” and I explained that this is what we were instructed to do and then he said (in a snotted voice) “Well…I don’t have a computer”. Knowing that he was just telling me this to get me to tell him over the phone I told him it might be a few minutes but I might be able to look it up for him. I asked him how many books he needed to know about and he snapped at me that it was a certain course #. I said, “This is for a Summer class right?” and he said “No, Fall” and I said that I could not help him because that information would not be available until July 25th (which is the truth). He was still snotty and said tell me the names of the books and I said I didn’t have that info yet (which is true) and he said, “Well then give me the prices” and I couldn’t do that either considering I do not know what the books are and we haven’t ordered yet. I just kept repeating myself that the information and books should be available on the 25th. Finally he got mad and said he would be calling back on the 25th and I said “Great”.

So tell me, why do I have to put up with that? Why are people taught that it is acceptable to treat others that way? I can understand if there is an ongoing issue that you have to be snotty to get someone to listen but for this…no way.

My Daddy is coming!

My dad has today off and since he had to work this past weekend for Father’s Day he is making the venture to come to visit this afternoon/evening. Hopefully he will be here (at the bookstore) by 4 and then we can head off to Stacy’s Garden World to pick up some plants and hang out a bit. I can’t wait! This day is going too slow.

I know that a lot of you that read this blog aren’t from GWU but I know some of you are. This past week a fellow student passed away after a fight with cancer. Her name was Pam Darnell. She was a beautiful girl. She always had a smile on her face and I think everyone on campus has seen her around. She was involved with the Campus Ministries events and with the YMCA things as well.

Her brother has recently set up an online blog for everyone to contribute to. Even if you don’t know her, feel free to take a look at it and read about this awesome girl. There are pictures as well.

A New Ride…

2005
06.16

Some of you know this, but for awhile now I’ve been giving an older lady a ride to her house every afternoon. She got in a wreck and totalled her car and hasn’t had a way to get around. I saw on her license the other day that she was born in March of 1929 so I guess that makes her 76. She is a sweet and funny lady but she can sometimes be demanding. I’ve been trying to help her as much as I can. She even wanted to come to Bible School on Tuesday so we went to grab something to eat and went to Bible School. After Bible School I took her home and found that she had gotten another car that afternoon. It’s a 98 Dodge Neon. She wanted me to take her to her church down the road and let her practice driving in the parking lot. I went to start the car up and the battery was dead because she had left her lights on. She was so upset and I tried to calm her and tell her that it was a common mistake. We got ahold of her landlord and he came and jump started it. Then we went to the parking lot to let it run for about 30 minutes. At this point it was 9pm.

After driving around forever it was finally time to go back to her house. She then said she thought we should wait another 30 minutes and I finally called Justin and told her he would know what to do *wink wink* so of course he said that 30 minutes was enough. After I parked the car I turned it off and told her I would restart it to see if it would before I left. She was just sure it wasn’t going to. Sure enough it did but she wasn’t satisfied and made me do it again. She was still not satisfied and I told her we needed to give it a break and not drain it more but she had her mind fixed and she got out and went around and started it again. Finally I had to firmly tell her to get out of the car and leave it alone. I told her she could always call me for a ride if it didn’t work. When I left at 9:45pm she was sitting on her porch and I just know she went back and started it again haha. I didn’t get home til about 10:05pm and then I just got a drink and went straight to bed. What a day!

VBS Finale

2005
06.16

Yes folks, tonight is the final night of this year’s VBS!!! We have almost made it through our Ramblin’ Road trip. I haven’t done dishes in a week (and you know Justin hasn’t hehe), my car is a mess and filled with VBS props, and I haven’t even had time to see much of Justin this week either.

Last night’s lesson went well. The kids were starting to get tired for the week. We had some rowdy ones but nothing too hard to handle. We “went” to Yellowstone National Park last night. Thanks to my mom and Kelly I was able to bring in some pictures and stuffed animals to show the kids. The second session I had to seriously shorten the Bible story about Jesus washing the disciples’ feet and then I called them one by one and “washed” their feet. They were pretty good while I did it because they wanted to be the next one I called. Then we talked about being helpful. I took them two at a time and blind folded one. Then I spun him/her around and then had the other help guide them around some chairs. They all seemed to love it and learned about helping one another. It also made them quiet for when parents came to pick them up haha. I’m just glad that tonight I don’t have to teach and I just get to help tame the children haha. Tonight we are going to Knoxberry Farm.

Everyone have a great night and I’m sorry for all those I haven’t been able to call, see, or speak to lately. I miss you guys!
